Education and Youth Development

The Urban League's Project Ready initiatives combine academic skill building, leadership development, positive support networks, and college and career readiness training with ACT preparation to ensure African-American and other disadvantaged students from across Greater Kansas City successfully matriculate middle and high school and are ready to enter college or the workforce.


An interactive program to help 9th through 12th grade students:

  • Stay in school
  • Increase college eligibility and complete admissions applications
  • Apply for and obtain scholarships
  • Learn about careers and engage in community services activities

Accelerated Learning Lab

  • Homework assistance
  • Individual and small-group tutoring in four subjects of ACT - Math, Science, English and Reading

Project Outcomes

Outcomes tell the whole story…

  • On average, students increase their ACT test scores by 2 to 3 points, with some achieving 4 and 5 point gains
  • 100% of participating students graduate from high school and 98% attend four-year colleges and universities
  • More than $5 million annually in scholarships are awarded to ACT NOW students through Infinite Scholars Scholarship Fair
