Equalizers is the monthly giving program for supporters of the Urban League of Greater Kansas City (ULKC). Big-hearted and like-minded, Equalizers are a special group of donors - really, a select team of supporters. They are committed to giving a hand-up and leveling the playing field for their fellow Kansas Citians. Through their consistent, bite-size monthly giving, Equalizers help and empower young people and families in need.

Equalizers’ predictable support ensures that more and more kids and families have opportunities to make better lives for themselves through ULKC’s education and workforce development programs and race relations leadership.

EQUALIZER SPOTLIGHT

I am always seeking ways to dismantle racism and work for justice. That said, it is important for me to support the Urban League of Greater Kansas City because of its vast impact.
— ULKC Equalizer Hannah Fenley

Hannah Fenley became an Equalizer in 2021 after a friend virtually introduced her to Gwen Grant, President and CEO. For Hannah, the meeting cemented her decision to donate monthly through the Urban League of Greater Kansas City’s Equalizer program. She has never looked back!

“At the time, I was coming to understand the systemic and structural nature of racism as a white woman. I was impressed with the caliber of the Urban League of Greater Kansas City’s work and wanted to be connected. Making a monthly contribution seemed like the natural first step,” Hannah said.

Raised on a Kansas wheat farm, Hannah was immediately drawn to the diversity of people and variety of places when she moved to the Kansas City metro area. She was married to Dave Fenley, who was Congressman Emanuel Cleaver’s campaign treasurer for many years. Now an empty nester, Hannah shares her home with two cats, Bobby and Hal. Her son, Paul, lives in Tulsa, and her daughter, Ann, resides in Denver.

Her dedication to social justice is a cause she finds joy in sharing with her children as well as other Equalizers. “I encourage folks to read the Urban League’s State of Black Kansas City and attend the annual Difference Makers Luncheon,” she said. “I’m convinced of the value and importance of the Urban League of Greater Kansas City’s work; it is meaningful to offer financial support monthly.”
